25 Oct Halloween is coming – Another great reason for some new ink!
I don’t know about you, but I always need some kind of justification or reasoning to get a new tattoo. Well the 31st October is approaching, time to carve pumpkins, watch scary movies and be inspired for a new piece of ink.
I’m walking along the cobbled backstreets of Islington with Abigail Leeds, looking around the stalls and tables full of artwork, chinaware, vintage clothing and antiques. Somehow Abi manages to find the most interesting, and slightly creepy items. She picks up animal skulls, witches jewellery and taxidermy. She loves all things weird, spooky and wonderfully grotesque. Her flat is full of beautiful art posters for movies like ‘The Shining’, ’Dracula’ and ‘House on Haunted Hill’. Her wardrobe holds pieces such as a black cat bag with gold eyes, skeleton leggings and so many different rings and pendants.
For her love of horror, Abi has some amazing artwork on her skin including portraits of Vincent Price, Rob Zombie and Brandon Lee (from The Crow). Also the book of Evil Dead and the house from Psycho.
“Abi your tattoos are incredible! Please tell me about them.”
“Well, I got The Crow one because it’s the first cult film I watched and my mum used to say “It Can’t rain all the time” every time something went wrong.
I have Vincent Price because he is the Grandfather of horror!
Rob Zombie I got because he hadn’t made ‘The Lords of Salem’ yet [laughs].
And the other two I got because I love the movies and the designs were awesome!” (The house and book).
There are TOO many good Halloween themes, let me give you some inspiration/let me reminisce;
There are the classic movies like ‘The Rocky Horror Show’, ‘Hocus Pocus’, ‘Beetlejuice’ and ‘The Nightmare before Christmas’. You could get the biting red lips or the sparkly hat from The Rocky Horror Show, or maybe the book of spells or a broomstick from Hocus Pocus. When it comes to Beetlejuice why not get the house or even a portrait of Winona Ryder <3.
My memories also include The Addams Family, Frankenstein, Gremlins (remember how cute Gizmo is?!), and does Edward Scissor Hands count as a Halloween film?
But not all tattoos need to be Halloween themed. Do you love vampires? Get some lips and fangs. Do wizards and witches give you thrills? A hat or sparking hands casting a spell. Are you superstitious? How about a black cat or a little money spider. Or even just a story book, a good old sugar skull or maybe meaningful dates?
Bring out your witch side and come by on Saturday 29th October. To celebrate Halloween we will be offering a flash of designs for £31 (plus tips!).
